The Wheel Instructomercial

Lucy Wightman For those of you who are already yoga aficionados like my friend Kelly, this will seem like a trivial waste of space. This is commonly called “the wheel,” or the urdhva-dhanurasana. If you say it fast enough and on;t really know how to pronounce it spit out an odd number of ‘asa’ sounds and you will sound impressive.
I suggest attempting this posture without a spotter, with absolutely nobody at home, even your dogs. They might stare at you while you attempt this feat.
First, place your gripper gloves in front of you. Pull one as far over one foot as you can. Be mindful of “the wheel” and which leg might be more apt to raise up off the floor. DO NOT PLACE THE GRIPPER GLOVE ON THE SOON TO RISE FOOT. Attempt to make the glove into a sock. Place the other on one hand.

Place camera on a ten second delay and set it on an appropriate surface, making sure to focus while noting your ideal body placement. No fair to practice first or to ‘limber up.’ Once you press that button you have only ten seconds to adopt the proper posture. When you get really good at this glue two googley eyes on top of your foot. It’s fun!

This is actually the Godhelpmeasana pose. Since I ‘forgot’ which pose I was doing I tried it again.

Now for some reason I am failing to see the whole ‘wheel’ gestalt. One more try before bed.

It was the change in clothes that worked! I don’t think my back makes a wheel anymore and once I get my foot unwedged from behind the door I will try another posture.
